The owner froze as dust drifted from the photograph. The child in the picture looked no older than eight, smiling while holding the very same cat. That should have been impossible. The photo appeared to be decades old, yet the cat sitting beside him looked exactly the same.
As he examined the image, something slipped from behind it—a folded note hidden between the boards. The paper was yellow with age. The handwriting belonged to the former owner of the house.
The note explained that the child had disappeared shortly before the family moved away. For years, the cat returned to the attic carrying the boy’s favorite toy, leaving it near the hidden photograph as if waiting for him to come back.
But one sentence at the bottom changed everything.
“I never told anyone where he asked me to hide the second picture.”
Before the owner could finish reading, the cat suddenly stood up, ears alert. It wasn’t looking at the note.
It was staring toward an old locked trunk in the darkest corner of the attic… and something inside had just made a sound.
