The moment the bride read the engraving, her hands began to shake.

The ring wasn’t supposed to exist.

Years before, her grandmother had told her a story about a young man who disappeared just days before their wedding. The only thing he left behind was a promise engraved inside a ring that was never found.

Now that exact ring was in her hands.

The stray dog stood silently beside her, watching the path beyond the tree as if waiting for someone.

Then an elderly man stepped forward from the crowd.

His face had gone pale.

“I know that ring,” he whispered.

He explained that decades ago, a violent storm had struck the area on the night the young man vanished. Searchers never discovered what happened.

But the dog wasn’t listening.

Its attention remained fixed on something hidden among the roots.
