The Photograph Was Twenty Years Old—So Why Was Today’s Date Written on the Back?

The silhouette outside didn’t move for several seconds. The woman could barely breathe. Beside her, the cat remained perfectly still, its eyes fixed on the figure beyond the rain-streaked glass.

Then she looked back at the photograph.

The image showed a young girl standing beside a gray kitten. At first, she thought it was just an old family picture. But when she wiped away more of the water, her heart nearly stopped. The kitten had a small white mark above its left eye—the exact same mark her cat carried today.

That was impossible.

The photograph had been taken more than twenty years earlier.

Her hands trembled as she turned it over again. Beneath today’s date, another line of faded writing slowly became visible as the ink reacted to the rain. It wasn’t a message.

It was an address.

The cat suddenly jumped from the table and ran toward the front door. Outside, the silhouette was gone.

But lying on the porch was a small metal key attached to an old tag.

The same address was engraved on it.

The cat looked back at her and let out a quiet cry.

And that’s when she realized the photograph wasn’t trying to tell her about the past.

It was trying to lead her somewhere.

And whatever waited at that address had been waiting for a very long time.
